Midden in een persoonlijkheidscrisis beland, staat John Woodson (Matthew Settle) voor een dramatische en ingrijpende ervaring in zijn leven. Door een geheimzinnige samenloop van omstandigheden neemt hij deel aan een missie in Peru die tot doel heeft de oude profetische geschriften, bekend onder de naam De Celestijnse Beloften, terug te vinden. De geschriften en zijn negen hoofdpunten ('Inzichten') voorspellen het ontstaan van een nieuwe beschaving op aarde die volledig is gebaseerd op spirituele waarden. Aanvankelijk onwillig, sceptisch en onzeker ontdekt John echter bij iedere stap die hij neemt en iedere persoon die hij ontmoet, een nieuw 'Inzicht', totdat hij al de negen 'Inzichten' heeft ontdekt. Binnen dit proces van spirituele bewustwording vindt hij uiteindelijk zijn bestemming en slaagt hij er in de betekenis te doorgronden van datgene wat hij nog niet doorzag toen hij aan het avontuur begon.
